There is the fact that we all should know that the oceans are one of the most significant sources because of the oceans there is life on earth. The earth is the only planet that is sometimes denoted as the “blue planet” because the earth is covered with more than 70% of water, where the oceans are playing significant roles.
But the worst thing is it is now drowning in plastic, and it is becoming volatile due to the massively increasing global temperatures that are caused by the frequent climate changes. Look at the points mentioned below to get familiar with the ocean importance. Have a look here:-
Significant factors that denote the importance of the ocean in human life:-
- Oxygen production:-
This is the fact that we all should know that the oceans are producing more than 70% of the oxygen we are breathing. There is an estimation concluded by the experts that one type of phytoplankton is capable of serving the oxygen for one in every five breathing that we take. Most of the phytoplankton are present in the ocean plants that are available near the surface of the oceans.
- Regulates earth’s climate:-
The oceans are responsible for regulating the earth’s climate, weather patterns, temperature, and more. They are responsible for the rainfall because they play a significant role in droughts, flooding, and rain. Over the past several decades, the rate of carbon emissions is increasing day by day, impacting nature negatively, and we all are bearing the unpredictable heat and energy. Several people are unaware of the fact that oceans are responsible for temperature rise, and they are making the temperature incredibly volatile.
- CO2 absorption:-
People are unaware that the oceans are absorbing more than 30% of the humanmade carbon emissions. Hence from 1994 to 2007, it has prevented a whopping 34 gigatonnes that can be obtained from the carbon dioxide to enter the earth’s atmosphere. The carbon dioxide can be dissolved in the water or on the surface easily.
On the other hand, it can sink down and build up beneath the sea. All of such things indicate that the ocean is essential as some species have come forward towards extinction. Moreover, these things are increasing the rate of ocean acidification that needs attention and preventive measures.
- The largest ecosystem on earth:-
We have described earlier that the oceans are the source of life on earth; we all know that the earth is a planet that is having a massive ecosystem. The ocean is the home for countless creatures and unfamiliar species in marine life.
One of the most shocking factors is 95% of the ocean is still unexplored, and numerous researches are still going on. But due to the increased rate of plastic pollution in the oceans, several fish species are devastated. This is a significant impact on biodiversity, and all such statements are indicating the vast ecosystem is moving forward towards extinction.
